Kia has finally revealed the first images of it all-electric EV6 after giving us just a taste last week. The “crossover inspired” EV is based on the same platform as the recently announced Ioniq 5, the Hyundai E-GMP modular EV platform.
Looking at the EV6, the proportions looks quite similar to the Ioniq 5 which isn’t surprising as they share the same platform. This also point to similar specs for the upcoming EV, however those have not been released yet. Kia is expected to announce specs on the car during an event later this month.
This isn’t the first time Kia and Hyundai have shared the same components before as Hyundais’s Kona and Kia’s Niro EVs share a powertrain. Two vehicles the are very similar when comparing the exterior and the interior. However, although sharing a platform, the EV6 is actually quite different compared to the Ioniq 5, specifically inside the vehicles cabin. Take a look at the photos below:
As you can see in the photos the Kia EV6 has a grille at the bottom of the front end. Something that is not seen in the Ioniq 5 as EVs don’t require as much air intake as gas cars. Some manufacturers have opted for putting fake grilles in order to make them more reminiscent of their ICE brothers, others have decided to leave it in the past.
Inside of the Kia EV6 is a generally simple and clean design with a large split screen that stretches across the EVs dash with half of it visible to the driver through the steering wheel, and the other half in the center where passengers can adjust the infotainment system.
The EV6 does not have a gear selection lever but instead a knob for gear selection on the center console. You will also find a power button for the car in the same location. Multiple switches on the steering wheel allow for easy access to controls.
Along with the photos, Kia also explained their design philosophy with a press release. According to the automaker,“Opposites United,” with five key design pillars: Bold for Nature, Joy for Reason, Power to Progress, Technology for Life, and Tension for Serenity.
