President Biden is Bringing EVs to the White House

With moves like rejoining the Paris Agreement, canceling the Kestone XL pipeline permit, and appointing a climate team of policy experts, Biden has already made his stance on climate change and renewable energy pretty clear. Now we are learning that President Joe Biden will be replacing the entire fleet of US federal vehicles with American-made electric vehicles.

According to the latest Federal Fleet Report, the US federal fleet has over 645,000 vehicles including 245k civilian vehicles, 173k military vehicles, and 225k post office vehicles.

Biden’s choice to replace the existing fleet with an electric one is not a shock as the newly elected president used a lot of his time on the campaign trail to voice his passion and commitment towards Aemerican-made renewable energy.

There were no details or timelines given during the time of the announcement, but as Biden followed through signing several executive orders on his first day as promised, we can hope this will also be a solid commitment.

Pete Buttigieg, Biden’s transportation secretary, has also voiced his support for the accelerated advancement of electric vehicles, saying he wants to put “millions” of electric vehicles on roads in the United States.

As mentioned above, this isn’t a particularly shocking move from President Biden as he is expected to implement new EV tax credits as well as other incentives to encourage the adoption of electric mobility and away from ICE automobiles. In addition, President Biden was noted saying New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal is a “framework” for his environmental plans, which calls for the U.S. to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
