Fueling the rumors of a Model S and Model X refresh, we are now learning that Tesla has informed employees to liquidate all Model S and Model X inventory by the end of the month.
Sources from automotive news outlet Elecktrek said that Tesla has instructed employees to sell all Model S and Model X inventory in stores across all markets. Essentially leaving zero Model S and Model X inventory come February.
The fact that Tesla hasn’t produced any new Model S and Model X units in almost an entire month should make this a fairly easy task. Tesla shutdown production of Model S and Model X lines for its flagship electric sedan and SUV. It’s nothing we hadn’t seen from Tesla before, but this shutdown is longer than Tesla’s usual holiday break, sparking even more rumors regarding a refresh as some speculate the automaker is updating its production lines to produce the new version of the electric sedan.
Tesla was reportedly working on a significant interior design refresh for the Model S and Model X in 2018 that was expected to launch in the summer of 2019. It included a new horizontal center display, a smaller instrument cluster, and a was expected to utilize higher-end materials inside the vehicles. However, Tesla refocused its attention towards ramping up production of the Model 3 putting the Model S and Model X refresh on the back burner.
Rumors of a Tesla Model S refresh have been circulating for years, and the Model X could probably use one too at this point. Although Tesla CEO Elon Musk continues to claim that Tesla doesn’t refresh its cars, the recently refreshed Model 3 says otherwise. Tesla updated its Model 3 last year to share some of the latest Model Y features. Furthermore, Tesla even updated the Model Y, which only came to market in March 2020, around the same time. So, there is a good chance that Tesla is finally be updating the Model S and Model X design, we’ll just have to continue to be patient.
