The Access Lucid Air Will Have 406 Miles of Range

Recently, the startup Lucid presented its first production model, the Air. This executive sedan (segment E) will become one of the biggest rivals of the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, which it surpasses in aspects such as autonomy (the newcomer homologates a maximum of 516 miles EPA, compared to 203 miles EPA of the Porsche and the 402 miles EPA of the Tesla).

The sedan will be marketed in several versions: Air, Air Touring, Air Grand Touring, and Air Dream Edition. Only the three central variants’ technical specifications and prices (Touring, Grand Touring, and Dream Edition) were known. Now, Lucid has also confirmed new details of the access variant.

The Lucid Air “just,” whose arrival on the market will take place throughout 2022, will have a starting price in the United States of $77,400, which will remain at $69,900 after applying the tax credit granted by the government of the country. This rate is very similar to that of the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus, which stays at $71,990.

Regarding autonomy, we find 406 miles homologated under the American EPA cycle. This figure is very similar to that thrown by the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus, which stands at 402 miles EPA. The Tesla will continue to be somewhat more powerful, as compared to the 487 hp (358 kW) of the Lucid, it offers 541 hp (398 kW).

Another interesting point that should be remembered is that Tesla has an all-wheel-drive (one motor on each axle) as standard, while the Lucid in this variant will be an all-wheel-drive (a single motor on the rear axle). However, the Air will charge more power (300 kW) than the Model S (250 kW) in direct current. Therefore, we face two vehicles that will be direct rivals by approach, category, size, range, and price.

The Air Touring for its part will cost $95,000 ($87,500 after the tax credit) and will homologate the same 406 miles EPA of the lower Model. The Air Grand Touring will go up to $139,000 ($131,500 after tax credit), reaching a maximum range of 516 miles EPA, while the Air Dream Edition will reach $169,000 ($161,500 after the tax credit), with 502 EPA of range.
