Rivian was approved by the Normal Town Council on Monday to adjust site plans. The changes will include the addition of 600,000 square feet to the former Mitsubishi factory and will help address the demand for its vehicles. Rivian also stated the expansion would add around 80 jobs to the area.
The EV startup is preparing to produce electric sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks at the factory as well as the 100,000 electric delivery vans it has been contracted to produce for Amazon.
The factory is expected to employ around 1,000 people at peak production. Rivian stated that with the expansion they expect to add around 80 more positions to that number.
