A new Tesla Megapack project has been commissioned by a group of companies in the UK including Harmony Energy and Fotowatio Renewable Ventures. It was announced today that they are commissioning their new battery energy storage plant on the UK’s south coast in Dorset in hopes to offset high demand on the UK National grid. It was also revealed that their battery system will operate using Tesla’s Autobidder system stating in a press release “The utility-scale energy storage facility operates using Tesla’s cutting-edge ‘Autobidder’ AI software.”
The company also stated about the project “Autobidder provides independent power producers, utilities, and capital partners the ability to autonomously monetize battery assets. Autobidder is a real-time trading and control platform that provides value-based asset management and portfolio optimization, enabling owners and operators to configure operational strategies that maximize revenue according to their business objectives and risk preferences.”
Tesla is currently using Autobidder in the US and Australia, with plans of launching the product in Europe. As seen in some battery storage products such as Tesla’s Megapacks, Powerpacks, and Powerwalls, the platform is used to more directly monetize energy storage assets. Since last month Tesla was also officially approved as an electricity generator by local authorities in the UK.
Chief executive officer of Harmony Energy, Peter Kavanagh, said about the announcement “Utility-scale battery energy storage is critical to the future of the UK’s energy supply, often seen as the missing link in the UK’s renewable energy strategy, both in terms of controlling grid frequency and providing backup during periods of peak demand and supply. We’re delighted to have worked closely with FRV and Tesla to complete this project, which is the first in our pipeline of battery energy storage plant to be built in the UK.”
Making this development one of the largest battery energy storage plants in the South of the UK, the project will use six Tesla Megapack batteries with a combined capacity of 15 Mwh.
