Mercedes-Benz Shows the EQA During Harsh Winter Tests

Mercedes-Benz has again released a sneak peek at the EQA, its new 100% electric compact SUV. This model derived from the GLA will become the most affordable electric car in the German manufacturer’s offer. However, it is expected that, mechanically, it will share almost all its elements with the future EQB.

The new teaser consists of a video where the star’s signature shows us the demanding tests that the EQA faced in northern Europe last winter. The objective of testing the car in such extreme conditions? Tune-up your batteries, which will have to offer excellent performance in any weather situation.

According to internal sources from the brand, the presentation of the EQA will take place before the end of 2020, although, for the moment, the exact date is unknown. It is expected that its first deliveries will take place throughout 2021, arriving almost at the same time as its biggest rival, the Volvo XC40 Recharge P8.

Regarding the GLA from which it derives, the EQA will be differentiated by a fairing grille and specific design headlights. At the same time, in the rear, it will have a new tailgate (the license plate moves to the bumper, which leads us to think that the riders will be united as in the EQC). Inside the EQA will be identical to the GLA except for details such as specific digital instrumentation.

At a mechanical level, it will be characterized by having a new generation electric motor equipped with neodymium magnets, which will stand out for its efficiency. Its 204 hp (150 kW) power will be transmitted to the front wheels, although we should not rule out the possibility that later versions with two electric motors and all-wheel drive will be added to the offer.

As for batteries, it is expected to have a pack of about 100 kWh battery pack enabling “up to 700 km” of WLTP range, which should result in over 350 miles of EPA-rated miles. It will have a fast charge in direct current, which will allow you to recover 80% of its range in about 30 minutes.
