BMW Brilliance has started to build a new production facility on the existing site in Tiexi, a district of Shenyang in the province of Liaoning in China. With the new plant, BMW Brilliance (BBA) wants to double its capacity at the site.
The expansion project is being implemented in an area of 3.2 square kilometers. It will be equipped with flexible production lines where BMW’s strategy of producing models with different drive technologies. As a result, pure electric cars, as well as plug-in hybrids and combustion engines, will roll off the assembly line in the future.
The existing plant in Tiexi was opened in 2012 and equipped with modern facilities. The first car factory-installed in China in neighboring Dadong by BMW is being converted and expanded in parallel. The structure of the production facility is to be successively expanded to future BMW model variants while maintaining the same production capacity. In this way, the joint venture intends to increase its annual production capacity to 650,000 cars.
With the construction of the new plant heralded, BMW Brilliance has been planning for a long time. Already in October 2018, BMW and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings (BCA) announced in the course of celebrations to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the joint venture that they would like to expand their capacities in China and invest over three billion euros in new and existing plant structures in Shenyang.
