Rivian and Ford will work together to develop an unprecedented electric car to be sold under the blue oval logo and built on Rivian’s flexible platform.
Ford has confirmed that Lincoln will bring an all-electric vehicle for its luxury brand, fully inspired by the R1S and Mustang Mach-E. The concept will bring traditional traits of a combined truck and SUV into direct competition with the Rivian truck.
The R1T pickup is scheduled to be on the market for late 2020 and the R1S for 2021. So this is the right time for Lincoln to unveil its new concept and compete directly with Rivian.
Ford also makes it clear that the investment in Rivian is unrelated to the $11 billion announced to create a portfolio of entirely electric vehicles by 2022. Other models are to come, including the F-150 EV and Mustang Mach-E already released.
