Samsung Is Partnering up with Lucid Motors For A Breakthrough Car Battery

After announcing last week that they will build a multi-million dollars manufacture plant, Lucid Motors have even better news. This time it’s about their battery technology. The startup is partnering up with Samsung. The Korean company will be the supplier of their battery cells for the yet to be seen electric sedan. In as a joint effort, they created a new cylindrical li-ion battery that they said to be a breakthrough.

Albert Liu, Director of battery technology of Lucid Motor said: “I have been very pleased with the results of the collaboration with Samsung SDI in developing a cell chemistry that meets our stringent standards. Samsung SDI combined their in-house chemistry expertise with massive real-world datasets and state-of-the-art battery models provided by Lucid to develop a cell that is both energy dense and resistant to damage associated with fast-charging.”

Lucid Motors claims that their sedan will have 400 miles range thanks to the new cylindrical battery made from Samsung.

“The breakthrough battery life demonstrated by the new cell from Samsung SDI will be of tangible benefit to our customers, particularly companies with ride-sharing services operating around the clock. I look forward to continued collaboration with Samsung SDI.” said Peter Rawlison, CTO of Lucid Motors and former Chief Engineer at Tesla.

All these announcements are coming before CES 2017, when Lucid Motor and Faraday Future are showing their new all-electric cars. It seems that the electric car market is going to be hot next year.
