How Take Care Of Your Electric Car Battery

The battery pack is the heart of your vehicle. In case if you don’t know, every Lithium-Ion battery has a limited life time, but there are some actions that you can take to extend the health of it. They are very easy to follow and there is no reason not to. Of course, if the manufacture of your car says something different that you read here, you should always follow the owners manual.

Being inactivity for a long period of time.

Let’s say you’re going for a family vacation for a couple of weeks, and you are leaving your car at home. What to do? Some cars have a “storage” option already on its OS, but if your vehicle does not, is better to leave it with half a charge. If you leave a battery dead for a long time, it could die forever, and if you leave fully charged for a extended period could strain it and lost some capacity.

You need to pay attention to the weather.

High and low temperatures can affect the life span of your battery. So if it is a hot day, leave it in a shade and for cold days try to park in a garage. Of course that some cars have a internal cooling system, but that uses energy and some of that systems shut down after some minutes after the car is turned off.

Have the latest OS version.

The operational system is the software that runs your car and its battery. The manufacturers are always coming up with new technologies that help the battery consumption and improve life span. So it’s very important to always check if you have any updates available.

Try not to use the DC Charger.

If your car is equipped with DC quick charger, try not to use it that often. This technology can charge around 80 miles of range into your car in less than 30 minutes, which is awesome, but that doesn’t come without a price. When you use the quick charge, you are stressing your battery and that way diminishing its health of time.
